Power of Attorney

Last week, we had an enthusiastic group of participants to discuss issues faced by the elderly and their families. One common issue was when parents live in a different state from their family. If someone has been designated with financial or medical power of attorney, it would be ideal if that person or persons lived in the same state as the loved one. It is wise to put your wishes in writing for all family members and any close friends, that may be involved. If you are the one who has the power of attorney for a loved one, it would be helpful to keep other family members, including the loved one, informed of major financial issues.
